YouTube Has a New Service Like Google Adwords

November 17th, 2008 · Comments

Video promotion just got easier . . . and potentially more expensive.  YouTube has just started a new service which is very much like Google’s adwords program.  Basically, you take one of your videos and promote it in an Adword’s type process.  For those of you who haven’t any idea what adwords is, you promote your site, or a specific landing page of your website. You bid on different keywords which describe your product or service.

In the case of YouTube:  For example, let’s say you are promoting a video that shows that real estate agents and brokers can take existing photographs that they have of their houses, buildings and land to create videos.  Yes, make videos using still photographs.  (Perhaps you saw the series of videos which became famous about the Civil War era.  Ken Burns took old photos taken during the civil war and narrated the story behind the images.  It played on public television very successfully.)

You can make a video using this process of using still pictures to create a compelling video.  Let’s take the example of a real estate video where the agent uses his still pictures.  Which keywords would you select?

Here some example keywords you would bid on:  real estate, video promotion, video marketing, website marketing, videos without a video camera, no video camera.  You list the likely words that a watcher would use if he where to search for such a video. You want your video to be found, so you have to come up with the most descriptive list of keywords that you can.

If someone finds your video and plays it, you pay YouTube perhaps 10 cents for that play.  It doesn’t matter if the person watches the entire video or plays a small amount and bails out.  You still pay YouTube.  Within the video, it is your job to make it interesting enough to get your watcher to go to your website and perhaps purchase what you have to sell. Certainly, you will want to have your website URL visible at the start and at the end, at least.

If you want to promote your videos on YouTube, you need to learn how to make good videos that sell.  Otherwise, you will be spending lots of your hard earned dollars promoting something that may not work.  I have, as an experiment, entered one of my videos to see if this creates some traffic to my site.  I won’t tell you which video it is, for obvious reasons.

After I have some experience with YouTubes’ sponsored video, you will get my report.  I will let you know how effective this new promotional method works.  Stay tuned.

By the way, the easiest way to get my emails is to subscribe to my rss feed.  Then, you will have my new articles automatically sent your your reader of choice as soon as they are published.  You don’t have to come to my site to check to see what is new…you will already know.  Just click on this link and you can subscribe to the rss feed.  Rss Feed
