How to Light Your Video Inexpensively

May 24th, 2009 · Comments

Take a few of your hard earned dollars, and buy a couple of florescent, soft lights.  Doing this will improve your videos tremendously.  For about $150 you can purchase two lights, including the stands and a carry case.

I recently watched a UStream production by Howie Schwartz.  He used no lights except the light from his computer screen.  The light was coming from below so he looked like a gool.  Maybe Howie can get away with this, but you shouldn’t try.

Watch this quick video and see what you can get.

Light your videos correctly, and prosper.

  • The new compact florescent lights for video are very cool. Literally and figuratively speaking. Compact florescent is a new type of light bulb, they have not been around all that long. For years, TV and video relied almost exclusively on a type of bulb called tungsten halogen. These were hot, hot, hot! Those are not obsolete by any stretch but the compact florescent have many advantages.
  • Those new compact flourescent lights for video are awesome.

They give a great looking light and they do not get hot or take tons of energy. The light is nice and diffused.

    Thanks Richard.
